Resource Intelligent Future Luxury – A design research and strategy MA Thesis project in collaboration with Land Rover, exploring ways of creating a holistic mobility experience which is an element of a lifestyle and embodies the essence of luxury, innovation and design logic inherent to Range Rover.

 

Resource intelligence means using power, materials and energy in an economic, pragmatic and innovative way which demands design sensitivity and ingenuity. It is a concept inherent to biological systems which maximize energy use and design for survival – it is also a principle at the heart of Land Rover and the nature of their products.

 

In this work stream, we wished to push resource intelligent forms of mobility forward and ask what are the future opportunities for the Range Rover family of products in an age of resource intelligence, ecological change and the growth of new technology and power alternatives especially renewables in the mobility sector?

 

The answer was looking at the “New Luxury Values” defined by a younger generation, resulting in a research which explores the using of space, materials and colour, placing the stimulating of senses as a luxury value for a generation which is fulfilled through sharing meaningful experiences and stories to tell. Focused on the principles of reductive design, biological paradigms and the questioning of set thinking and processes, to re-define a set of relevant luxury values.
